July 2013 Contest Winners “Lets Have a Celebration”Two of the three winners were shot locally at Quail Creek and the third somewhere off the Alaskan coast. Ken Haley won First place with a photo of the Quail Creek Fourth of July parade which honored Vietnam War Veterans. The men in this picture, Wes Whitman and John Kozma, constructed a form around a golf cart to make it look like an Army vehicle and took Uncle Sam for a ride. Their entry won both First place in the decorated golf cart contest and also the Grand Marshall’s prize. The photo was taken as the parade left Madera Clubhouse. ISO 100, 1/2000 sec, f/10.Bob Aagaard’s second place photo was taken during the 2012 Fourth of July Quail Creek Parade honoring Korean War Veterans who are residents of Quail Creek. Bob was riding on the Gun Club float and shot the picture from the float as the parade went down Quail Range Loop. The ship was elaborately decorated throughout for the Fourth. This particular display was one of many gracing the entrance of one of the dining rooms.
