On a trip to Nevada’s Valley of Fire State Park (see also last May’s contest article), Jeff Krueger passed through a town called Chloride, an old mining camp north of Kingman, AZ. It was like going back in time for the place is not a tourist town. Chloride is Arizona’s oldest mining camp and it never quite died. Population has been holding at about 250 souls. The old gas station looks like a good destination for Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz of The History Channel’s “American Pickers.” Their Mercedes cube van might soon make a stop and haul off some service station memorabilia. Jeff’s photograph received the first place award for September’s “By-gone Era” competition theme. Camera used: Cannon EOS 5D Mark III, f/18, 1/160 sec, IOS-200, fl 105mm, aperture 5.0, no flash.
Ed Scissons took his third place photo at the fringe of an industrial area of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. The image gives the impression of two old vehicles greeting and embracing each other. The photo was shot in the fall and Ed first wanted to remove the tumble weeds and trash that had blown into the area. Ed decided to leave as is. He came back a few weeks later and everything had been removed.  Technical specifications not available.
